You need to keep it aerated, keep it moist, add eve parts brown and green components (as in nitrogen and carbon rich components) Then you also have to let it sit around 6 months so possibly a good 1-4 weeks pz time.

Right click on any empty space of ground and you should see a Carpentry tab by your cursor. Navigate to it and you will see a more options appear. Look for furniture --> composter. You'll need 5 planks and 4 nails to build it. If you're farming a lot then I recommend building two!

always remember to put rotten food in composter! takes a long time to make compost but you'll get it eventually. It should show when ya hover yer cursor at the seed names when yer sowing. The Project Zomboid Wiki will show you how many days each crop will take to harvest along with how much minimum water the crop needs.
