A friend of mine did one in a bar where he made a grid of narrow false beams that were fastened onto a 2' X 2' t-bar grid and then made wood lay in panels in place of the ceiling tile. He made the beam about 4" deep and then put crown on the edge of the "ceiling tile" so the t-bar ceiling looked like a rich coffered ceiling.
