Schtoolee Discussion starterIt did say Marlin Firearms Co. New Haven, Conn in italics on the barrel and it does say MARLIN GOLDEN 39A in caps. I know "golden" means its not old old. But it only had a 4 digit serial number located under the lever handle on the bottom tang, 3367. No other numbers on the exterior of the rifle.Marlin 1894 and 94 manufacture dates. I have a question on manufacture dates for a couple of different Marlins. First is a Model 94, in 25-20 serial number 8014xx, as best I can tell the first number is a 8 and not a 3, but even with a magnifying glass I am not 100% sure. Second is a 1894C 357/38 Serial number, 92041xxx.I have a 1957 39A with the letter "P" (early 1957) in the serial number, plainly struck and not a partial "R" (late 1957). I don't see it on your list but did find it over at the Marlin Firearms Collector Association site. On their list compared to yours between 1957 and 1964 there are several lettered differences as noted.Collected from various sources: Marlin Model 1936 Stamped on the upper tang produced from 1936 to 1941. Serial numbers are on the lower tang under the lever. There's no sure way to know the exact year of production for numbers without a letter prefix. All B Prefix serial numbers were second variation built in 1941.I have a Marlin Model 39 or 39A with a serial number of 427168. I believe it is a Model 39A first model, except I can find nothing to validate the serial number and also, in all the pictures I have looked at, checking on the forend and butt stock grip. The last patent date on the barrel is March 1, 1892.It is a 1968 production gun. There is a thread somewhere on here that gives about all the serial number information if you want to do a "SEARCH" for it. It will give all the letter gun production dates as well as how to determine year of manufacture after the letter gun ceased. If that's the one you have your serial # dates to 1992. The formula is 100-the first 2 digits of the serial # (100-08 =92) They are really nice rifles! The serial number is MR 24XXXC. It has "WG" stamped on the left side of the barrel near the receiver. There is no "JM" or "REP" on the barrel. It says Marlin Arms Co, North Haven, CT on one side. The rifle has only 3 digits in the serial number clearly stamped on the rear stock tang under the lever. The numbers are 590. These are the only numbers I can find on this rifle.Ok, I brought what Marlin had told me when I looked up the serial number. I was told it is a model '92, 39A, serial number 371153, manufactured in 1963. I only seen the Golden A model manual on Marlin's web site and am wondering if that manual is the same as for my rifle.
