The slow jigging rods we are talking about recently are totally different. The rods are inshore rods for smaller fish using small reels spooled with PE2 - . PE5. It is a challenger to catch 50 - 100 lb tuna with such a light rod. Diamond jigs works great for tuna.The 50 holds about 1,000 yards of 80 lb braid. How much backing would you use before you spliced to your Spectra. I was thinking about a 50/50 mix. 500 of backing and 500 of JB hollow 80. My Popping set-up is 65lb Suffix on 7'6" FTU Black Magic, and it has performed very well on our schoolie sized (50-70lbs) yellowfin. Here's another vote for the Makaira 20/30 for 200-400lb tuna. I personally think Talica 25II is out of it's league with 400lb class fish in the mix, Talica 50II is probably the next logical choice if you're going with Shimano. Apply a good coat or 2 of carbuna wax to bare spool. Do not drop your spool of braid line in a bucket of water like some vid's tell you.
